Learn basic technique for applying layers of colour & fabrics to create stunning pictures that can be used as decoration on clothing, patchwork etc.
You will need Scraps of cotton fabric (Patchwork Fabric) in different colours (some supplied).
20cms of Vliesofix (This is kept under the counter at Spotlight. You will need to ask for it)
Hand sewing needles.
Applique will be incorporated into the Patchwork course. If you wish to learn Applique, please enquire when this will be held.
Patchwork basics are covered in this course but it can also cater to those with some experience.
You will learn about the different equipment & cutting techniques used in Patchwork & gain confidence & experience by creating different patchwork squares (blocks) in each lesson. These blocks will get progressively more difficult & use different techniques and there will be some choices to allow each student to choose their block depending on confidence.
You will also learn about different wadding & how to assemble your blocks & discuss basic quilting techniques so that you can turn your blocks into a table runner or a quilt as desired.
Required: Over the course, you will need a variety of patchwork fabrics & Homespun (plain patchwork fabric) depending on the block. Flat Fats are a good way of buying a variety of designs, they are about 50cms square.
You can choose colours that coordinate/all go together so that your blocks can be joined later into a quilt or colours/designs that are totally different. If you have scraps at home, you can also bring them. Fabric should be 100% Cotton Patchwork fabric & preferably pre washed, dried & pressed.
We will discuss this more during the first class.
Scissors, Thread 250m or 500m (prefer 100% cotton) in a neutral colour (mid grey or cream are good).
If you have a Mat, Rotary Cutter & Ruler, please bring along.
NB: transport your Cutting Mats flat as they can warp if not.
A limited amount will be available in class if you don’t have these.
Sewing Machine, cords & accessories feet, screw driver, instruction manual, spare needles etc.
