Learn basic technique for applying layers of colour & fabrics to create stunning pictures that can be used as decoration on clothing, patchwork etc.
You will need Scraps of cotton fabric (Patchwork Fabric) in different colours (some supplied).
You will also need 30x30cms of Plain Light Coloured Homespun (Cream or pale Blue etc).
Thread
20cms of Vliesofix (This is kept under the counter at Spotlight. You will need to ask for it)
Hand sewing needles.
Patchwork basics are covered in this course.
Learn about the equipment & cutting techniques used in Patchwork.
Cut out & assemble several Patchwork blocks to learn sewing techniques.
Select your best blocks to turn into a Table Runner.
Learn about different wadding.
Assemble your blocks, wadding & backing.
Discuss basic quilting techniques.
Learn how to bind your quilted Table Runner.
More info will be emailed out on this course, the blocks & fabric once the course is confirmed.
I strongly suggest you don’t buy any fabric or equipment until you receive your info pack.
Fabric Required:
You will need 3 or 4 different patchwork fabrics for this project …over 1.5 metres in all (extra included in case of mistakes etc). You will also need some wadding.
Please consider this extra cost when looking at the course cost.

Scissors, Hand sewing needles, Thread 250m or 500m (100% cotton) in a neutral colour.
If you have a Mat, Rotary Cutter & Ruler, please bring along.
NB: transport your Cutting Mats flat as they will warp if not.
Limited amount will be available in class if you don’t have these.
Sewing Machine, cords & accessories feet, screw driver, instruction manual, spare needles etc.
1/4″ foot & Walking Foot…only if you have one, you can still learn the techniques without them.

DRY FELTING
Using a special needle, learn how to use sheep’s wool to layer & build a 3D object such as a cupcake, a teddy bear or similar. Learn how to embellish scarves, jumpers & more.
This is not knitting or using sheets of felt…you start with special equipment & fleece or combed sheep’s wool to create your piece.
Lots of fun!
WET FELTING
Learn the techniques used in Wet Felting.
A fun & creative medium, turning sheep’s wool into sheets of felt.
Explore this wonderful medium & create pictures & objects from the felted wool.
We also touch on various techniques including Nuno Felting which uses felt.
Learn the techniques needed to make a lined bag with a zip closure & an internal zipped pocket.
The bag has a contrasting base & lower sides.
A heavier fabric such as Denim, Drill/Twill. Cotton Duck or canvas are suited to this bag.
Between 112 or 150cms wide.
Main Bag: 60cms
Contrast Base/Lower sides: 70cms
Lining (cotton fabric such as Homespun in plain colour): 60cms
Thread to match
45cm Zipper
4 ‘D’ Rings (Supplied)
Optional: 60 cms of Fusible Pellon or the cheaper version from Textile Traders (this is a thin, iron on wadding that adds fullness to the bag. You could also use a heavy Fusible Interfacing.
You will need your sewing gear (sewing machine, scissors, etc) & some sew in interfacing for your pattern.
